On Thursday 31 August, BARC Scandinavia, Aarhus Festuge and Teataer Svalegangen present a strong line-up in Aarhus at Teatret Svalegangen and out in the streets of the festival week. We will meet significant art and significant cultural personalities who will share insights about ambitious ventures, how strong partnerships are entered into across actors and sectors, and how art and culture profile a city – and perhaps drive development. But which development?
Commercial manager Jette Rendbøll presents the World Goal project 'United Change', whose production budget corresponds to the total annual budget of Teatret Svalegangen. How do you approach such a large project? What learnings are there? What does the organization of such a large project look like? We will also hear the theatre's CEO and artistic director Per Smedegaard in conversation with director of Aarhus Festuge Rikke Øxner and the importance of art and culture for a city like Aarhus, and how to embrace the many aspects of value creation when evaluating activities.
We will experience a number of works of art during the program, which is rounded off with communal dining in the Ridehuset, where Aarhus Festugen has set up a number of food trucks in collaboration with MIB.
Program:
15.00: Welcome at Teatret Svalegangen, coffee/cake, talk, networking
15.30: We see the works that are performed at the theater that day: Pulse and X-ray Fashion
16.15: Jette Rendbøll on how the entire United Change project was built with partners, budgets, methods, lessons learned, Q&A
17.00: Vision presentation on what culture means for cities and which ecosystems the cultural actors are part of
- with Aarhus Festuge's director Rikke Øxner and Teater Svalegangen's director and artistic director Per Smedegaard in a facilitated conversation with Peter Bentzon
17.45: Departure and walk to United Change works and festival week events out in the city
19.00: Communal dining in the Ridehuset
20.00: Thanks for today/free play
Price for participation: DKK 400 + VAT per person which is invoiced upon registration
About Aarhus Festuge
Aarhus Festuge was held for the first time in 1965, after having been established in 1964 as an experiment to activate the city's institutions and associations. The aim was to present the city's cultural profile and Aarhus' great potential to the outside world. The great success has meant that Aarhus Festuge has since then become an annual recurring tradition. The festival week was thus created based on a strong political conviction that art and culture and community make the city flourish.
Since 1965, Festugen has developed from being a local event, which it still is today, to also include an international focus, and artists from all over the world have made their way past Aarhus over the years. For 55 years, Aarhus Festuge has fascinated, inspired and challenged.
BARC [Connect] are our networking events where we bring together actors from cultural life and from other sectors for networking and professional input with a focus on partnerships across the board. Read more about an associate membership of BARC's network here.
