Build the Change - when partnerships create access to new communities. Kulturkraft26: LEGO Group keynote

In this keynote, Anders Juul shared insights into how LEGO works with creativity as a force for change. We were introduced to a global case in which the voices of children and young people become an active part of cultural projects, and we saw one of the strongest examples of how global brands create engagement and outreach through community building and culture.

LEGO has a strong tradition of working with community building, including through its global network, Adult Fans of LEGO (AFOL), and through its pragmatic regulation of communities that create large-scale animations using bricks (LEGO Black Ops). Through the Build the Change programme, LEGO applies all of these learnings, also in collaboration with the LEGO Foundation. LEGO Build the Change is a global change programme run from Denmark by a small team. It is made possible through strong partners, a shared mindset, and a clear programme structure - while change happens through collective and local action.

In Anders’ keynote, we heard how LEGO, through around 40 museum partners worldwide, enables children to create prototypes for change through creativity. This approach is translated into concrete practices in both classrooms and cultural institutions, ensuring that children’s voices are heard where it matters most.

Anders Juul from the LEGO Group’s Build the Change programme shared insights into how they engage children from around the world to develop solutions for a sustainable future that can inspire real change. The programme not only strengthens children’s voices, but also inspires meaningful action by teaching them to use their creativity to address the challenges they will inherit.
